Controlling Fruit Pests
Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison talks about fruit tree pests. Tree fruits need to be under a regular spray program. This will prevent worms in the fruit and blight on the fruit and tree. You can get home orchard sprays at most nurseries and garden centers. The spray is preventative and needs to be applied at 7 day intervals or after every rain.
The plum curculio attacks peaches, plums and nectarines. The female cuts a small c shaped opening in the immature fruit and lay an egg in the fruit. The caterpillar will hatch and eat the fruit from the inside. Apple trees and pear trees have similar pests. Stink bugs may also be a problem, unfortunately there are no good chemicals for stink bug control for home owner use.
Unfortunately there is no effective way to control fruit tree pests organically. If you do want to grow organically, choose a different plant to grow.
