Q&A – What kind of soil should I put in a raised bed and how deep
should it be?
Question:
What kind of soil should I put in a raised bed and how deep should it be?
Answer:
It is a good idea to use a high percentage of native soil in a raised bed. Gardener Peter Richards says if you use only compost or manufactured soil you will probably have issues with the plants growing in the bed. Peter says the height of the bed depends on what the bed is built on. If it is built on soil, it does not have to be very tall. On concrete you need a minimum of 6 inches, but preferably 12 or more inches.
