Does fish emulsion go bad?

Fish emulsion is used for fertilizer in the garden, and it always smells bad. But even with the bad smell it is still good. UT Horticulture Specialist Celeste Scott says if it is stored in a dark area with somewhat constant temperatures, it should last almost forever.
