How and when should I prune my Japanese maple?
The best time to prune a Japanese maple is late winter or early spring. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond suggests waiting until the buds are about to break on the branches because then you can see if any parts of the plant did not survive the winter. Also, prune at a point of growth like where a branch grows out of another branch.
