I am trying to start a plum tree from seed. What do I need to do for success?
There are two paths for success here depending on if you want a tree or fruit. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison says the tree grown from seed will likely not have the good fruit you are thinking of. At the same time, it will grow and be a pretty tree. If you want fruit, he recommends buying a known cultivar from a nursery.
