I cut down my hydrangea’s dead canes. Why did I not get any blooms this year?

We don’t know what type of hydrangea this is, but it is probably a Hydrangea macrophylla. There are several things that might have happened to keep it from blooming. UT Extension Horticulture Specialist Celeste Scott says it is likely the result of the extreme cold weather the south-east has experienced the last two winters.
