Q&A - Do hostas have disease problems this year?

Question:
Last year we planted a dozen Hostas and within two weeks they began to die. We found out that Hostas were having a difficult time with a disease. We pulled them out and threw them away. Have you heard if Hostas are having disease problems again this year?

Answer:
Hostas have several different diseases that can affect them but most do not kill. Root rot can kill a plant. Nematodes can infect the plant but do not kill the plant. Hosta Virus X can infect some hostas, but that will not kill the plants. Make sure you inspect plants before you buy them at the nursery.
