Q&A - Indian Hawthorn Leaf Spot

Question:
I have leaf spots all over my Indian Hawthorn. What is it and how do I control it?

Answer:
Spots on Indian Hawthorn leaves are often caused by entomosporium leaf spot. This fungus is able to take hold on wet leaves and is often found on young leaves after prolonged spring rain when leaves stay wet for a long time. It can be treated by fungicide. Prevention is not entirely possible but opening up the plant to improve air circulation can speed drying thus reducing the time the leaf may become infected.
