Q&A – Can I spray dormant oil on my shrubs?

Question:
Can I still spray dormant oil on my shrubs?

Answer:
TSU Extension Agent Joellen Dimond explains that you can only use dormant oil on your plants when they are dormant. The oil kills insects and eggs on the plant but can burn and damage any green tissue like leaves. Because of this you need to spray dormant only when the plant is dormant. If the plant is not dormant or even may be about to break dormancy it is best to use horticultural oils that will not harm a growing plant.
