Q&A –  Can my little maple trees be saved from moldy leaves?

Question:
Can my little maple trees be saved from moldy leaves?

Answer:
The weather lately has been cloudy and wet. This provides an excellent environment for fungus to grow on plant leaves, which is what is happening here. This is powdery mildew.  Using a fungicide will not fix the problem that already exists but will keep it from spreading. Fungicides are preventative. You can use chlorothalonil or copper hydroxide according to the label direction. This will keep the new leaves free of the mildew.
