Q&A – My gingko tree does not look happy. How can I save my tree?
Question:
Would you please help me with the Ginkgo tree my husband gave me? We've had it for 3 or 4 years. It doesn't look happy now and did the same thing last year. It has had plenty of water, sun and love, but the leaves turn yellow and start falling off in June. One lower limb died and I removed it. Please help me save my tree. I love your show.
Answer:
There are probably several things going on. It is possible that this tree is getting too much love and is being overwatered. Horticulturist Dr. Lelia Kelly says if a plant is not doing well, look at the roots. Looking at the pictures the are roots exposed. The tree may be planted too shallow. Also, some of the roots look like they are circling and possible girdling the tree. This tree probably needs to be dug up, the roots “un-circled” and replanted at the correct depth.
