Q&A – My pecan tree has never had pecans. What care does it need?
Question:
I have a 12-year-old pecan tree that has never had pecans. What care does it need?
Answer:
Pecan expert and Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison has several suggestions. Pecan trees are not self-pollinating. There are two types of pecan and you need at least one of each to have successful pollination. Also, if it is an older cultivar tree it may take several more years before the tree starts to produce the nuts. He also reviews basic pecan tree care.
