Q&A – What is this plant that keeps coming up? A: Redbud

Question:
Can you tell me what this plant is? I have 3 that come up in a flower bed by my azaleas every summer. I usually cut them down do I am not sure if they bloom. - Melissa, Memphis

Answer:
This is redbud. It is a tough plant. Andy Williams from Lichterman Nature Center says it is hard to permanently remove as it keeps coming up when you cut it down. You could either dig it out or cut it down and paint glyphosate concentrate on the fresh cut. Redbud is a beautiful flowering small tree.
