Q&A – What is this pupa?

Question:
While I was digging in my garden, I found this pupa. I have a feeling it's not a good bug; am I right?

Answer:
This looks like a pupa of a moth or beetle. There is no way to be sure by just looking at it. You can put the pupa in moist soil in a covered cup and see what comes out.
