Q&A – Will Loquat grow in Arkansas and Tennessee?
Question:
Lately, I have been hearing a lot about a fruit tree name a, Loquat. It is also known as the Japanese or Chinese Plum. I have heard others in South Carolina and in Louisiana speak about how these trees grow prolifically in the wild, in their areas. Are you familiar with Loquat and is it something found in Arkansas or Tennessee?
Answer:
Loquat is a tree with pear shaped fruit and large leathery leaves. It does best in USDA zones 8-10. Arkansas and Tennessee are mostly zone 7. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says the plant will grow in zone 7, but probably won’t produce much fruit and my get knocked back by the winter cold.
