Soil Testing

It is important to apply the correct amount of fertilizer, too much will damage the soil and harm your plants. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison recommends that every three years you conduct a soil test. He talks about how to take a soil sample and prepare it for testing. Mike gives specific instructions for Tennessee residents using the UT Soil Test Lab, but it is similar to other soil test labs. If you test every few years you will save money more money on fertilizer than the cost of the soil test.
