Cutting Hydrangea Paniculata for Indoor Arrangements
Hydrangea paniculata makes an excellent cut flower for bringing indoors to use in floral arrangements. To prepare a stem, make a cut just above a node deep inside the plant, then clean up the cut end if necessary. Selecting stems with a useful shape and length also makes them more versatile for different types of floral displays.
After making the main cut, remove bulky side shoots that may interfere with the desired shape of the arrangement. These shorter side stems and blooms do not need to go to waste; they can be used in small vases or floated in a container of water. Strip away the foliage before placing the flower in an arrangement. With the side shoots and leaves removed, the resulting hydrangea stem provides a flexible option for both large arrangements, and with additional shortening, in smaller displays.
