Cleaning-Out and Planting Flowers in the Butterfly Garden
The butterfly garden is three years old and some of the plants have bolted, others have died. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond cleans out the garden and plants more flowers. There are a few issues in the butterfly garden. There aren’t many weeds, but the parsley has gone to seed. This needs to be removed and some of the seed planted for next year. Also, the aster is trying to take over. Some of it needs to be dug up. After doing these things Joellen plants gaillardia, yellow coneflower, Russian sage, and monarda. She also plants milkweed seeds for next year. Butterflies will be attracted to these flowers.
