Fruit and Nut Pollination
Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison talks about pollination of fruits and nuts. Most fruits are pollinated by bees. Honey bees are strong fliers and can cover a large area. So, you may have a fruit tree without another pollinating tree and the honeybees will still pollinate it from a tree a mile away. It is best to not use pesticides during bloom because it will harm the bees. Fungicide will not affect pollinators and can be used during bloom. For wind pollinated fruits and nuts the pollinating tree needs to be close.
