Houseplants

Laurie Williams from Memphis Botanic Garden talks about houseplants. She brought a number of unusual plants for show and tell. Some of the plants she brought have  spider mites, mealy bug, and scale and she shows those pests. When watering houseplants check them for pests such as these. Also make sure you regularly turn houseplants to keep them from always growing in one direction. Laurie suggests planting a number of plants in a single pot which will reduce the amount of work you need to do to take care of them. Make sure plants that want the same conditions are together in the pot. If you are growing euphorbia make sure you do not get the sap on you as it is a skin irritant. Also, euphorbias are not good if you have pest that eat plants. It is very important to not have standing water in houseplant containers. It is bad for the plants and also provides a place for mosquitoes to breed.
