Planting a Tree

Planting a tree is a great simple way to improve your yard. Certified Arborist Wes Hopper shows how to plant a container grown tree. Wes digs a hole larger than the pot and deep enough that the tree sits in the ground at the same depth as in the pot. As he digs the hole, he puts the dirt on a tarp to make cleanup easier. Before he puts the soil back around the tree, Wes cuts a root that will girdle the tree and scores the roots to encourage them to spread. He then packs native soil back around the tree root ball. Finally, Wes lightly mulches and prunes off any dead branches.
