Planting Blackberries
Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison shows how to plant a blackberry plant. He is planting a plant of the Natchez cultivar. It is a semi-erect thornless variety. Mike advises to make sure you know how big the plant will get before you plant it. Blackberries should be planted at container depth - the top of the container soil is at the same level as the ground. He digs a hole as deep as the pot and about twice as wide and scores the sides. The plant he has is root bound so he does some root pruning with a knife and then sets the plant into the hole. He then backfills around the plant.
