Fruit Trees Planting Tips
Retired UT Extension Agent, Mike Dennison, gives directions and tips for planting fruit trees. Mike says late winter is the best time to plant fruit trees but fall is a good time to get the planting sites ready. He gives the recommended spacings for various fruit trees. He also lists how each common kind of fruit is pollinated either by wind or bee. Mike also gives direction about how to plant both bare root and container grown plants. He also talks about pruning after planting. Mike uses University of Tennessee Extension publications to figure out the best varieties of trees to grow in Tennessee. Each state has an Extension Service that can give you recommendations of good varieties to grow in your state.
