Q&A - Am I washing the nutrients out of my raised bed when I water?

Question:
Am I washing the nutrients out of my raised bed when I water?

Answer:
Master Gardener and raised bed expert Stephan Leonard says that the nutrients do wash out but that is actually a good thing. Fertilizers are salts and over time the salts build up in the soil and harm the plants. With a raised bed those salts are washed away as the bed drains.
