Q&A - Can I make grass grow in shady areas?
Question:
On both sides of my house there's not much sunlight. In both places the grass is thin, and you can see dirt. What can I do in these areas? Is it even possible to make grass grow there?
Answer:
Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison says that grass will probably not grow there in the shade. You could cut some trees to let more sun through or you can give up on the grass and plant shade loving ground cover like mondo grass, hostas, or Pachysandra.
