Q&A - How do I get rid of chickweed?

Question:
What is the best way to get rid of all this chickweed in my yard? Trying to cut that stuff chokes out my lawnmower.

Answer:
Chickweed is an annual weed that grows from seed. It can be controlled by a broadleaf herbicide like 2,4-D. Weeds tend to love more acidic soils so perform a soil test and raise the pH according to the instructions on the test results. Chickweed likes areas with poor drainage. Chickweed seeds like to grow in thatch so controlling lawn thatch can reduce the problem somewhat. A healthy dense lawn will help reduce weeds.
