Q&A - How do I kill flea beetles on my beans?
Question:
What is the best way to control flea beetles? They are eating holes in my snap bean leaves.
Answer:
There are several chemicals that will control beetles on beans. Carbaryl, bifenthrin, Zeta-cypermethrin, gama cyhalothrin are all listed in the UT Redbook. Beans can tolerate a lot of leaf damage without adversely affecting the crop so if you have only a few holes you don’t have to spray. Also, spray after you see damage, preventative spraying wastes pesticide without killing any bugs. Each of the above pesticides have a waiting period from when you spray to when you can harvest. Follow label directions when applying any chemical.
