Q&A - Is copper oxychloride a safe organic pesticide?

Question:
Is copper oxycholoride a safe organic pesticide?

Answer:
UT Assistant Professor of Horticulture Natalie Bumgarner says there are many copper based products - some are labeled organic - which are used as a fungicide or bactericide. It is an elemental product, so the copper can build up in the soil if you use it exclusively or over use it. Make sure to use it as directed on the label and rotate your use of copper and other products to reduce this build-up.
