Q&A - Is It Necessary To Prune
Crape Myrtles?

Question:
Is it really necessary to prune crape myrtles?

Answer:
Many people think it is necessary to chop the top off of crape Myrtles every year. Gardeners call this "Crape Murder," It destroys the natural form of the tree. However, this method is not the healthiest for your decorative trees. Selecting a breed with the appropriate height for your garden, along with trimming low unsightly branches is the recommended way to keep these plants looking their best. As Jason Reeves says "Stop the chop."
