Q&A - The leaves on my Kwanzen cherry tree are turning brown. What is going on?

Question:
The leaves on my Kwanzen cherry tree are turning brown. What is going on?

Answer:
This is cherry leaf scorch. Certified Arborist Wes Hopper says with the wet weather comes the fungal diseases. The fungus can be controlled preventatively by a fungicide. Extension Agent Chris Cooper recommends picking up all the leaves in the fall and disposing of them to reduce disease pressure next year.
