Q&A - What creature is digging up my petunias and pansies?
Question:
This past summer I planted Blue Daze and Petunias in my flower bed. Some pest dug up all the petunias but left the Blue Daze. This fall I replanted with pansies. They are being dug up whole plus there are other holes in the bed as well. We have a lot of squirrel and chipmunks in our neighborhood but also some raccoons. I have sprinkled a powder of dried fox urine but it only helps for a few days. What creature is doing this and what can I do to prevent it?
Answer:
This could be any number of animals. The dried fox urine you are spreading is keeping them away, but it washes away every time it rains. You will have to reapply.
