Q&A - What is the best time to prune dogwoods?
Question:
I have several young dogwood trees and they're beginning to grow somewhat wildly. When is the best time to prune and trim dogwoods?
Answer:
Dogwoods – and most trees – should be pruned at the end of winter just before new growth starts. Also, without leaves it is easier to see the shape of the tree. When pruning take the twig or branch all the way back to the crotch. Do not leave a stub.
