There is a blackish film on my crape myrtle plants. What is it and what can I do to prevent it?
Answer:
That is the fungus sooty mold. It is feeding on honeydew which is secreted by crape myrtle bark scale or aphids. If you don’t get rid of the scale or aphids the sooty mold will return.
