Q&A - What should I use to replace my silver maple?
Question:
I am cutting down my silver maple and am looking for a replacement tree. Any suggestions?
Answer:
Silver maple has a shallow root system that can become problematic in the yard. UT Extension Horticulture Specialist Carol Reese recommends planting a new disease resistant American Elm. Princeton is one variety. Native Oak trees are a good choice too, but avoid pin oak. She also likes Zelkova, common bald cypress, and ginkgo (which is extremely slow growing)
