Q&A - When and how should I prune my plum tree?

Question:
When and how should I prune my plum tree?

Answer:
The best time to prune a plum tree is in the late winter or early spring. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison says fall is the worst time to prune plums. He says you can prune a lot of limbs and not harm the tree. He recommends opening up the center of the tree. He also gives other pruning tips.
