Q&A - Why do carpenter bees just sit on flowers?
Question:
Sometimes I notice that carpenter bees land on flowers and just stay there. Why? Could this be because they are eating treated wood?
Answer:
Jim Crowder from Memphis Botanic Garden says carpenter bees land on flowers to gather pollen and nectar. They will also sit out in the sunlight and warm their bodies. Carpenter bees are not affected by treated wood. If you want to get rid of the bees’ permethrin is a good product to use. Spray it on the area where they are boring and it will kill them. If the area is shaded and stays dry the permethrin will stay effective for about 3 months.
