Q&A - My Mulch Looks Like It Has Mold On It

Question:
I have a long flower bed in the backyard along side the back of my house. I have only planted hostas and lantana flowers in this bed. We have mulch in the bed and a soaker hose that hardly ever is turned on unless is doesn't rain for a month or so. The flower bed looks like it has mold in it. What should I do?

Answer:
Because of the wet spring the mulch in the flower bed has a fungus growing on it. It will not hurt the plants. The fungus is only breaking down the mulch. If you want to not see it just stir up the mulch.
