Q&A – Can I eat my blueberries if I treated the soil for ants?
Question:
I am currently in my first year as a blueberry farmer (14 bushes). So far so good. However, I'm concerned about imported ants, and what to use in case of soil infestation. Can I eat my blueberries if I treated the soil around it for ants?
Answer:
You need to read the label on the product you are putting down and see if it is approved for use around food crops – some are, others are not. Another option is to try to constantly disturb the ants. Fire ants will move if they are disturbed enough. Mow around the blueberries and disturb the mounds frequently. The ants will move, then you can treat them away from the blueberries.
