Q&A – Can my loquats be container grown on my front porch?
Question:
I have two two-year-old Loquats in containers on my porch. As long as they are watered, they aren’t stressed. Can they be container grown on my front deck? The ceiling height is 8 feet.
Answer:
Loquat is a tree with beautiful large leaves. They can’t survive winters much colder than zone 8. Horticulture Expert Lelia Kelly has a loquat in her yard in north Mississippi but it does not set fruit because the blooms get frozen. She grows it on the south side of the house where it is more protected from cold winter winds. She says that because it is a tree, it will grow large so it might outgrow your porch without heavy pruning.
