Q&A – Can you use Sodium Polyacrylate in pots and raised gardens to reduce watering?

Question:
Can you use Sodium Polyacrylate in pots and raised gardens to reduce watering?

Answer:

Sodium Polyacrylate absorbs water and can be used to help keep pots from drying out. Dale Skaggs, Director of Horticulture at Dixon Gallery and Gardens says it is useful in containers to help regulate water level. He gives some tips for using it, but he suggests trying to plant at a natural time for the plant, so you don’t have to use Sodium Polyacrylate.
