Q&A – Do I need to prune my peach tree again this year?

Question:
Do I need to prune my peach tree again this year?

Answer:

Modern varieties of peach trees are very prolific growers and need to be pruned yearly. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison says the tree will get pruned, either by you or by mother nature, and you are nicer to the tree. He recommends opening up the center of the tree and bringing the top down to 6-8 feet so you can work the tree from the ground. Then he says it is important to do a good job thinning the fruit.
