Q&A – Do you have any advice on building a cold frame?

Question:
Do you have any advice on building a cold frame?

Answer:

Cold frames help lengthen the growing season for your plants. UT Extension Agent Celeste Scott says you need to be able to open them during the day. You also need to build them the correct size for your current needs and any planned future needs. UT Assistant Professor of Residential and Consumer Horticulture Natalie Bumgarner suggests adding a heating cable. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper recommends making sure the soil inside is well drained.
