Q&A – Do you have any suggestions to get rid of Poa Annua?

Question:
Do you have any suggestions to get rid of Poa Annua?

Answer:
Poa annua, otherwise known as annual bluegrass or annual rye is a problem in dormant southern lawns. Master Gardener Tom Mashour says that thick healthy lawns don’t have a poa annua problem. He recommends cutting your lawn high toward the end of the growing season. Also, he says to catch the clippings and throw them away when poa annua is producing seeds in your lawn. Preemergent treatments also will prevent the weed from growing.
