Q&A – How can I stop squash
vine borers?

Question:
I thought I had my squash vine borers problems fixed by using a thick mulching method. My squash plants have been huge with lots if fruit. But, alas the borers are back. How can I stop squash vine borers?

Answer:
The short answer is that it is almost impossible to control squash vine borers with organic methods. You will have to resort to insecticides. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison gives a list of insecticides you can use. Garden expert Tonya Ashworth says she does not even try to grow squash organically but gets hers from the farmer’s market or store.
