Q&A – How do I get rid of a nest of bees in my flower bed?

Question:
How do I get rid of a nest of bees in my flower bed?

Answer:
Beekeeper Ginny Fletcher suggests sprinkling cinnamon on the ground around the bee nest. Do this at night when the bees are not active. This will drive them off without killing them. Native bees build their nests in dry soil. Watering the area well for several days will make them leave. If the bees are yellow jackets or hornets use an insecticide, also later in the evening when they are less active.
