Q&A – How do I get rid of burweed in my lawn? It is taking over.

Question:
How do I get rid of burweed in my lawn? It is taking over.

Answer:

Burweed produces sharp burrs that will prevent you from walking barefoot on your lawn. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond says even if you spot spray the plants there is a weed bank in the ground and they will keep coming up. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says spreading preemergent herbicide in the fall will keep the weeds from germinating. He lists some options.
