Q&A – How do I prevent Japanese fruit flies
in my cherry tree?

Question:
How do I prevent Japanese fruit flies in my cherry tree?

Answer:
The Family Plot guests are not from Washington state where the question originated, and they do not want to give bad advice. TSU Extension Agent Joellen Dimond, recommends that you contact your local Cooperative Extension Service office. They will have instructions on how and when to control this pest in your area. Often for Japanese fruit flies, it is encouraged that you set out traps, and when you can identify the fly in the trap, then start spraying. It will be a schedule of insecticide which the local Extension office will have.
