Q&A – How do we get our cucumbers to set fruit?
Question:
How do we get our cucumbers to set fruit?
Answer:
There are many different reasons cucumbers may bloom and then not set any fruit. One likely problem is that there is too much nitrogen fertilizer. Alainia Hagerty, owner of Tomato Baby Company, suggests trying several different cultivars to see if some do better than others. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison says there may be too much phosphorus and potassium in the soil, which can inhibit plant growth and interfere with nutrient uptake. He suggests getting a soil test.
