Q&A – How do we get rid of hammerhead worms in our yard?

Question:
How do we get rid of hammerhead worms in our yard?

Answer:

Hammerhead worms are an invasive species of worm that eats earthworms. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says not much is known about the hammerhead worm, but research is ongoing. He says for now you can use salt or citric acid to try to kill them. Or you can pick them up off the sidewalk after rain and dispose of them. Do not cut them in half as they will become two worms. He recommends wearing gloves because it is not known if there is anything toxic or dangerous about handling the worms.
