Q&A – How do you get rid of Johnson grass?
Question:
How do you get rid of Johnson grass? No chemicals can kill it and I'm tired of doing it by hand.
Answer:
Johnson grass is a tough weed. It has recently become resistant to glyphosate. UT Extension Agent Walter Battle has found that it can be controlled when it is very young with sethoxydim. Johnson grass has deep rhizomes that cannot be pulled out by pulling up the top like a normal weed. The rhizomes will break off and send up new leaves. Because of this, rototilling will break up and spread the rhizomes increasing the problem.
